Water & Natural Resources
Bringing water back to dry streams, wells and farm ponds, with village participation.
NETRAVAN and villages of Umred taluka
Most farms here depend on rain. Together with villagers and forest staff, NiViM slows the rainwater down so it soaks into the ground: small stone check dams across streams, deeper nalas, recharged wells and farm ponds. The same water serves crops, cattle and wildlife.
What we do
- Build stone-and-wire check dams (gabion bandharas) and cement check dams to hold rainwater in streams.
- Recharge wells and tube wells, and dig farm ponds with farmers.
- Fill water holes for wildlife in summer, through shramdan (voluntary village labour) with forest staff.
- Lead the "Chala Januya Nadila" (Let's Know Our River) campaign to save the Aam river.
- Run clean-festival and waste campaigns in Nagpur city since 1997.
For CSR teams: fits Schedule VII (iv) environment and saving natural resources of the Companies Act, 2013.
