Natural Farming
Helping tribal and small farmers stop buying costly chemicals and make their own natural manure.
5 villages in Umred block, including Tambekhani
Chemical fertiliser is a big cost for small farmers in Umred block. With support from the Bharat Agroecology Fund, NiViM trained farmers to make their own natural manure and sprays, grow mixed crops, and sell together. Women and young farmers led much of the change.
What we do
- Train farmers to make Jeevamrut, Neemastra and other natural sprays and manures from cow dung, neem and local plants.
- Turn cow dung into compost in large amounts, so farmers need less chemical fertiliser.
- Show results on model farms, take farmers on field visits and run farm field schools.
- Help women's self-help groups set up a village oil mill.
- Form farmer groups that sell organic produce together, for a better price.
For CSR teams: fits Schedule VII (i) livelihoods and (iv) environment of the Companies Act, 2013.
