Food & Nutrition Security
Forest food, fruit trees and nutrition advice, so families eat well all year.
Forest villages of Umred taluka, and schools in Nagpur
Forest villages depend on mahua, honey, gum and tendu leaves for food and cash. NiViM trains collectors to harvest without harming the forest and to get a fair price, and works with mothers and young girls on healthy daily food.
What we do
- Since 2005, training for people who collect forest produce like mahua, honey and gum: how to harvest, store and sell it.
- Planting fruit trees in villages and schools, to mark births and festivals.
- Nutrition sessions with pregnant mothers, teenage girls and families, to prevent malnutrition.
- Awareness on organic manure and growing organic vegetables, with farmers and government departments.
- Helping villages plan small businesses based on the forest and the farm.
For CSR teams: fits Schedule VII (i) ending hunger and malnutrition of the Companies Act, 2013.
